Is whole-body vibration beneficial for improvement in bone density?

A study in the “National Library of Medicine” found that postmenopausal women improved the bone density in their hips after six months of whole body vibration therapy.

The high-frequency mechanical strain stimulates bone strength. In this randomized controlled trial, hip BMD was measured in postmenopausal women after a 24-week whole body vibration (WBV) training program. The vibration training significantly increased BMD of the hips.

Findings suggest that whole body vibration training may be a feasible and effective way to modify well-recognized risk factors for falls and fractures in older women.
